Kathiku Beverages expands distribution

BG CORRESPONDENT

Kathiku Beverages brand, owned by fashionista, Ineeleng Kavindama is finally hitting the shelves of Liquorama stores around the country as of Friday last week. Kathiku Beverages is also available at Sefalana Liquor Stores across the country and will soon be available at Checkers Liquor stores. Kathiku is Hambukushu name, which means the magic hour just before sunset. Kavindama explains that Kathiku beverages is about paying homage to her fatherland in the Okavango Delta and about paying tribute to Botswana’s tourism sector. Kathiku Beverages is centered around the Big 5 collection which comprises of five flavours represented by the big 5 animals of the Okavango Delta: Kathiku handcrafted pure Gin has 43percent alcohol ( Elephant); Kathiku handcrafted Vodka 43percent alcohol ( Lion); Kathiku Elder Flower & Rose Infused handcrafted Gin 43percent ( Leopard); Kathiku Blondie Cream

Liqueur 15.5percent alcohol ( Buffalo) and Kathiku English Toffee Cream Liqueur 15.5percent alcohol ( Rhino). “I am elated to be accorded a chance by Liquorama retail group because it’s important for Batswana to also be major players in the Beverage industry. It is a fact of life that the industry is dominated by foreign brands, who occupy almost 99percent of the market share. It saddens me that Batswana are on the other side of the value chain as consumers and not at the top of the value chain as owners of brands on the shelves.” Says the Okavango native.“Liquorama is one of the major players in the alcohol industry with 69 stores countrywide and still counting. This gives my brand an opportunity to be accessible to almost all corners of Botswana where Liquorama has footprint,” explains Kavindama. Pertaining to her expansion plans, she said: “Hopefully, we will be in a position to add Kathiku wines before the end of year. Our intention is to export Kathiku Beverages before the first half of next year. The plan was always to export the brand overseas hence the deliberate Kathiku Big 5 collection theme centred around the Okavango Delta,” Kathiku Beverages also runs a mobile bar where they serve cocktails made with their beverages wherever and whenever they are booked across the country. “Our products are premium hence they are called handcrafted. They are not mass produced but are made in small batches to maintain their quality. Our tagline is “No Babalaas and No Phuza face!” for a reason as there is no hangover the morning after.” Kavindama concluded.
